Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology (EAWAG) would like to announce the launch of the new Compendium of Sanitation Technologies in Emergencies that was jointly developed by the German Toilet Organisation (GTO), Bremen Overseas Research and Development Association (BORDA) and Eawag-Sandec with support from the German Federal Foreign Office and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
As a comprehensive, structured and user-friendly sanitation planning guide, capacity building tool and reference book, it is intended to facilitate the work of anyone working in humanitarian crisis like engineers, planners, relevant government representatives, capacity building agencies and WASH professionals involved in humanitarian response.
It offers background information on different emergency scenarios and phases of emergencies and the implications for sanitation infrastructure. In doing so, it supports and enables decision making by providing the necessary framework for designing a sanitation system and provides concise information on key decision criteria for each technology, facilitating the combination of technologies to come up with full sanitation system solutions and taking into account relevant cross-cutting issues.
The Emergency Compendium is available in English and can be downloaded here for free: www.sandec.ch/EmergencyWASH
